Asplenium sp Pincho (Ecuador)

Asplenium sp Pincho is a small delicate fern that thrives in moist, shaded environments.

Asplenium is a genus of about 700 species of ferns, commenly known as spleenworts. Found worldwide from tropical rain forests to rocky stone walls, these plants feature distinctive linear spore clusters (sori) and grow as ground plants, rock-climbing lithophytes, or tree-dwelling epiphytes

This is a very small species that is a perfect terrarium candidate as it can handle a relatively wide range of humidity and grows well in most mediums or epifitically.

Typically small and compact, growing in dense mats or clusters.

  • Light: prefer bright, indirect light all year-round and no direct sun
  • Temperature: 18–22°C and more in the growing season
  • Watering: keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. High humidity is essential for its growth
  • Fertilizing: use a diluted liquid fertilizer (¼ strength) bi-monthly during active growth
  • Humidity: very high humidity and regular misting
  • Soil: needs well-draining soil to prevent root rot like a mix of peat moss, perlite, and sand (PH 5–6)
  • Water: moist water range but never soggy
  • Light conditions: partial shade to dappled light
  • Propagation: via spores or stem cuttings
  • Origin: Ecuador
