Melastomataceae is a family of dicotyledonous flowering plants predominantly found in tropical regions, with about two-thirds of its genera originating from the New World tropics. The family consists of approximately 175 genera and around 5,115 known species. Members of this family, known as melastomes, can take the form of annual or perennial herbs, shrubs, or small trees.
