Elatostema belong to the stinging nettle family Urticaceae. They grow on limestone rocks (lithophytic) in the deep shade of the rainforests.

Very rare in collections within Europe but similar to the common Elatostema salvinioides.

• Light: prefer bright, indirect light if grown indoors and partial shade outside
• Temperature: a minimum of  18°C in the growing season
• Watering: keep the soil moist but not waterlogged and avoid letting the soil dry out completely
• Fertilizing: feed every 2 weeks from early spring through summer with a balanced water-soluble fertilizer
• Humidity: above 60%
• Soil: prefer well-draining lime based soil with PH around 7
• Water: normal to moist water range
• Propagation: stem cuttings, leaf cuttings
